Brits show increasing confidence in the property market

British consumers are showing an increasing confidence in the UK
property market as 2012 begins, according to the results of a new
survey.
Santander has said that, of those it questioned, 53 per cent think
that their prospects for buying this year are better than they were
in 2011.
Many will be helped out in 2012 by schemes like FirstBuy, which
allows them to buy a new home for 80 per cent of its value, and
with just a five per cent deposit.
It has also said that 3.7 million Brits think they can afford to
buy a home in 2012, with raising a deposit being the biggest
barrier for those who still believe they cannot afford to
buy.
Phil Cliff, director of Santander Mortgages, said: "It's been a
tough few years for the property market overall, but prices have
made a steady recovery so there's every reason to feel cautiously
optimistic."
